Kim, Hee Myun / Blair, Mikyoung - Weather was terrible - very windy and even snowed part of the match. Opponent's guy was hitting slice shots and the opponent's lady was volleying well. Hee Myun's aggressive ground strokes just did not go in with all the unpredicatable wind. Mikyoung's shots also did not go our way since the opponents were making nice shots. Lost in two sets.

Bae, Hyeon / Kim, Hyun Jung - Too windy here and just could not play our game due to the ball moving so much. Opponent's guy was made accurate, controlled shots to our open space. Lost in 2 sets.

Jang, Wonyoung / Park, Myohee - We tried to keep the ball in play by hitting soft shots. But, the opponents were just eating those shots up with volleys, half volleys, or hard ground strokes. Lost in 2 sets.

Yoon, Hyun-suk / Cha, You-kyung - We had a match here where we had a shot of winning. It was 4-5 in first set when the opponents stopped play due to their lines 1,2,3 winning. Grace was warming up her hard ground strokes. Hyun-suk hit some great volleys and half volleys which the other side could not defend against. Also, he played well by hitting to the lady who was weaker. Opponent guy did some fast paced shots, but Hyun-suk and Grace both hit them back.

Kim, Seong Joo / Lee, Jee Young - What could have been ??? We would have had a tight match here if only they got a chance to play.

D) Determined Defense - play offensively whenever possible, but also be able to defend. Some tennis players give up when opponent gets ready to hit a smash, but do not do that. 1) STICK your racquet out there and then you get a chance to hit it back. 2) RUN behind your partner who is at net when a lob is thrown over your partner's reach. 3) RUN to hit short drop shots or angle shots.

E) Energize yourself & your partner - during a match when all four players are about equal level in abilities or even when a team is weaker, it is the team with the ENERGY & BELIEF that he or she can beat the other team is the one that wins. Always encourage & energize your partner by saying good shot and by saying "GOOD TRY" when he or she tries to hit a hard shot without success. Remember to say this after the point is over because a verbal outburst during a point can interfere with your partner's or other's concentration.

F) Forge On & Forget past mistakes - do not remember past failing shot by you or your partner. You can STILL win. One recent example is Stephen & I were losing 1-6 in a tiebreaker at the final match of the 2007 Korean Southeastern Summer Olympics. We could have easily given up since the opponent team only needed one point to win. But, we did not. Stephen & I played on and WON 8-6 in the tiebreaker.

A) Always be ALERT - look at opponents racquet as the ball is coming off of it to get idea if the shot is 1) cross court or down the line, 2) long or short shot, 3) high or low shot.

B) Be a BEAST - get hungry to hit the ball. Do not be timid. Play like a hungry Lion or Lioness. When you are at the net and your partner is serving, move around and poach (move over to middle of ball sometimes to hit the ball. If that works, keep doing it to throw off the opponents).

C) Control CONTROL Control - Control your groundstrokes. If your ripping shots (fast shots) do not go in, then try hitting slower but more consistent shots. Control your serve (if you can) to hit it to opponents' weaknesses. Hit to weaker player. Control your voice. Do not shout in disgust to give hint that you just hit a shot going out because opponent sometimes will hit the ball going out before it bounces.
